It’s been one week since we previewed the This Old House® 2019 Idea House in New Canaan, CT, and we can’t stop thinking about it! Starting with the kitchen in the featured image above, we’re loving all of the appliances provided by Clarke: Official Sub-Zero/Wolf/Cove Showroom. However, the Integrated Column Refrigerators by Sub-Zero stand out as favorites. They blend seamlessly into the background, yet make quite a statement at the same time.
Custom cabinetry is by New England Cabinet Company, Aurea Stone in Divine countertops provided by Everest Marble, and light fixtures by Circa Lighting. It all just works. And, guess what? There’s a working kitchen hidden out of view on the left-hand side. So, this view never really gets messed up.
Chef Lidia Bastianich, Emmy award-winning television host, best-selling cookbook author, and restaurateur provided delicious food for the preview event. It was amazing to meet her and also hear a little bit of her heartwarming and personal life story. If you haven’t already, read her book, “My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and Food.”
What’s not to like about this space? The floor to ceiling windows frame the beauty outdoors, while bringing in lots of light. And, styled by Iconic Modern Home, this room looks fresh and contemporary with furnishings and accessories such as The Lucite & Glass Top Coffee Table by Pace Collection and Authentic Vintage Swivel Chairs by Milo Baughman. Light fixtures provided by Clarkson Lighting: Bronzeville Three-Light Pendant in Brushed Nickel by Sea Gull Lighting. Floor lamps provided by Circa Lighting: Lancelot Pivoting Floor Lamp in Nickel by Aerin.
This dining room offers just the right balance of traditional and modern. All furnishings, accessories, and rug provided by Stickley Audi & Co. And just look at that wall – Mountain Mural – Organic Wallpaper Collection by Mitchell Black.
The paint color here really sets the mood of this office. Walls, base, ceiling, and casing in Abyss by Benjamin Moore. Executive Soft-Pad Swivel Chair by Eames. Authentic Vintage Faux Zebra and Velvet Upholstered Lounge Chairs by Gio Ponti. Hand-Knotted Rug from the Lillian August Collection.
This glass, ping pong table by Impatia takes the game to a whole new level. In the background, the see-thru fireplace by Town & Country Luxury Fireplaces creates a space divide while still revealing a glimpse of what lies on the other side.
The skylight is the showstopper here. Fortunately for us, the preview event was on a beautiful September day so that we could see the bright blue sky above.
