5 Easy Tips for Holiday Decorating from Gaelle Dudley, interior designer, color expert, and founder of GLDESIGN.

1) Choose a color palette

It can be easy to get carried away with holiday decor! An easy way to simplify when purchasing for the holidays is to pick a color or two and stick with it throughout each room.                                                                                                                                                                                                  If you’re a traditional Christmas lover, you might choose red and green. If you prefer a neutral look, winter whites. Icy blue and silver if you’re going for a coastal theme. Keeping your color palette in mind will make for a cohesive, thoughtful holiday home!

2) Faux is easier than real

I love the smell of a real Christmas tree, but it’s okay to go faux with garland! You can dress up faux garland however you like, and it’s low maintenance.

No need to water it and it won’t leave needles when the branches dry. You have the green light from this interior designer to make your life easier and go faux!

3) Add texture

A simple velvet ribbon adds whimsy and a holiday touch. It instantly creates a magical space and announces that the holiday season has arrived! Also, a beautiful ribbon in the color of your choice can be used to tie ornaments, decorate gifts that sit under the tree, to hang a wreath or decor from windows – your options are endless!

4) Opt for battery powered lights

As a designer, I find any wires in a space to be an eyesore. I love delicate fairy lights for Christmas trees, mantles, or any space that needs a touch of holiday whimsy. These lights run on batteries inside a small power box that are easy to tuck away and out of sight –  a holiday game changer!

5) Switch out pillows and door mats for the season only

A fun way to show your holiday personality, and so easy! For pillows, remember to stick within your color palette to give your home that cohesive holiday look.
